The Yuantong Temple
The Yuantong Temple, a Buddhist temple
with a history of over 1,200 years, is the largest of its
kind in Kunming. After several large-scale renovations in
the Ming and Qing dynasties and after the founding of the
People s Republic of China, It has become the most famous
temple of Yunnan. It is the site of the Buddhist Association
of Yunnan Province and Kunming City at present.Compared with
other Buddhist temples in China, the Yuantong Temple has three
features. Firstly, it is the earliest temple of Avalokitesvara.
The style of garden architecture typical of the south of the
Yantze River in the building of a majestic and solemn Buddhist
temple in the middle of a pond is unique in the country. This
is the second feature. The third feature is that the temple
unifies the Buddhist Halls of the three types. |
