Jiele Golden Pagoda

Situated near Jiele village, 5 km away from Ruili, Jie Le Golden Pagoda is the most ancient Buddhist construction in Asia. Built by Chieftain of Menghao tribe more than 2500 years ago, the pagoda was under at least ten times of renovation and restoration, the present pagoda was reconstructed in the early 1980's and is the biggest pagoda in Dehong.

The construction of the present pagoda was started in 1981. with a solid structure of bricks and cement, the new pagoda represents the style and characteristics of the previous one. The major pagoda is 40 meters high, which is surrounded by another 15 minor pagodas. On the eastern and western sides of the pagodas are two bronze bells, which is donated by Chinese Burmese.

Legend says: once upon time, in a far away kingdom, in a starry night, a beam of light travels out from the ground upon the hill, the frighten people came to spot, thus a relic of Buddha had been discovered, to remember this incident, a pagoda was being built on the site by a prince. Since then, the pagoda has been a Mecca for Buddhists from Southeastern Asian Countries.
