Just like Xishuangbana, Dehong prefecture
borders Myanmar and it heavily populated by distinctive
minority groups. It is in the far west of Yunnan and definitely
more off - the - beaten track than Xishuangbana. In the
Dai Language, Dehong refers to the lower reaches of the
Nujiang (Salween river). Jointing Burma on three sides,
with a border line of 504 kilometer long, thus Dehong is
an important gateway from China to the South and Southeast
Asia.

sparking gem on the crown of Yunnan as the Kingdom of Plants
and Vegetations. Suffers no severe cold in winter and plenty
of rain in the summer, the whole prefecture is densely covered
by rain forest. The dark green jungles are also the sources
of high quality rice, sugar, rubber trees and tropical fruits.
The most obvious minority groups in Dehong
are the Burmese, normally dressed in their traditional saronglike
Longji, the other major ethnical groups here in Dehong are
Dai, Jinpo, known in Myanmar as the Kachin, a minority long
engaged in armed struggle against the Myanmar government.
The history of Dehong dates back to 2th
BC. Dai established their first kingdom along the valleys
of Ruili River, before the 4th BC, the land trade between
China and Southeast Asia were opened up, Dehong is the last
outpost along the Southern Silk Road before it extended
into Myanmar, India and other Southeastern Asian Countries.
The Region were rule by different powers, thus it was given
different names, Yi Zhou State in Han Dynasty, Nanzhao in
Tang Dynasty and Dali State in Song Dynasty. After liberation
of new China in 1951, the Region was named as Dehong Dai
Jinpo Prefecture ever since.
Dehong Prefecture is rich in tourist attractions.
The Ruili River and Da Ying River are the major attractions
for the interests of natural landscapes, ethnical cultures.
There is a national forest park (Wanding National Forest
Park) and a cultural historical remains (The Official Residence
of a local chieftain from Lianghe County) and two national
land trading ports (Jiegao Port in Ruili and Wanding Port).
In addition, there are also such interesting places as Bodhi
Temple, Great Golden Pagoda at Jiele and Wanding Bridge.
Travel to Myanmar
Wanding and Jiegao are two ports, where
travelers can exit China and enter into Burma. A traveler
needs to get a visa to enter Maynmar.

Airlines:
The Airport is 10km from Mangshi. There are daily frequent
flights between Mangshi and Kunming. From Airport to the
downtown, a taxi cost around 30 yuan.

There are several bus stations in
Mangshi, both the long distance bus station in the north
of town and southern bus station offer same destinations
