Bodhi Monastery

Bohdi Monastery is located in the middle of Xinan Road of Mangshi. The Dai equivalent of Bodhi Monastery is Zagn Xiang, the Temple of Diamond. The temple was first built in 1677, the 16th year of emperor Kangxi's Reign. It is said that the eldest son the governor of Mangshi gave up his officialdom and became a monk. He actually was the funder of Bodhi Monstery. The temple was named after a Bodhi tree in front of temple. It is underwent several restorations in its history. The present monastery was reconstructed in 1979.

The main chapel of the temple is a magnificent combination of the Han and Dai architectural styles with a Han style with a gable roof and a Dai style arrangement and decoration inside and outside walls of the chapel. A rich collection of art treasures from Dais; murals, paper cuts, numerous volumes of sutras. A visit during the Water Splashing Festival gives people a better chance to learn the religion of Dais. An enormous bare - foot Sakyanumi was sent here from Beijing. In 1956, a buddha's tooth was enshrined here.
