Nuodeng Bai Village
Nuodeng village, sharing the same name with
its upper level administrative division of Nuodeng town, is located
in the valley to the north of Yunlong County, in Dali Bai Ethnic
Group Autonomous Prefecture. The village is 7 km away from the Yunlong
County and 16 km away from Dali city, the capital of Dali prefecture.
On January 2002 the village was evaluated by
the People's Government of Yunnan Province as the "provincial
historical and cultural village"; in August 2005 it was again
named as the ¡°tourism town of development and construction
type¡±, later named as one of the ¡°most
valuable ancient village of tourism". In bird view, the shape
of the village is like a natural ¡°Tai Chi¡±
picture, a classic work of China¡¯s ancient architecture.
In December 2007, it was named as one of the first batch of 15
"Chinese landscape villages". In the old days, Nuodeng
village was called the ¡°Nuodeng well¡±.
The ¡°well¡± here means ¡°salt
well¡±, developed since the Han Dynasty, which now
has a history of two thousand years.
Along with the development of salt industry,
the social and cultural life of Nuodeng village was greatly advanced.
Its reputation for cultural prosperity and lots of talents lasted
as long as till the Ming and Qing dynasties. Numerous ancient
buildings and cultural heritage still exist today, which combine
the culture of the Central Plains and the local culture of Bai
ethnic group; its humanistic remnants still vividly reflect the
integrate of the three Chinese civil ideologies of Confucianism,
Buddhism and Taoism, especially the Confucian culture. The well
preserved ancient village scenery and Ming and Qing style buildings
which are over a hundred years old in Nuodeng village are fairly
intact in their original look and status, which are rare in Yunnan
province, even in the whole country. They recorded the historical
process in respect to the culture, economy, politics and social
customs in Yunnan region for thousands of years.
