Turpan

Turpan, lying in the east of Xinjiang, is called "an oasis in the desert." It is very hot and dry in summer, with the highest temperature of 47.5oC. The hottest season with a temperature above 40oC may last as long as over 40 days a year.

Astana Ancient Tombs

Astana Ancient Tombs, situated about 40 kilometers to the southeast of Turpan, used to serve as the cemetery of the citizens of Gaochang from 273 in the Western Jin Dynasty to 778 in the Tang Dynasty.

Ruins of the Ancient City of Jiaohe

About 10 kilometers west of Turpan County, Jiaohe was a strategically important city on the ancient Silk Road that travelers must pass through.

Karez Well

The Karez is an underground irrigation system that was installed 2,000 years ago. The karez is made up of three parts, ditch, underground channel and dam.

Ancient City of Gaochang

Situated at the foot of the Flaming Mountains, Gaochang was founded in the first century B.C. and abandoned by the end of the 13th century.
