Shanghai Museum

Shanghai museum locates in the heart of People¡¯s Square. It is 24 meters high with five floors, covering a construction space of 38,000 sqm. Shanghai Museum, a museum of ancient Chinese art museum, was founded in 1952. With a collection of over 120,000 pieces of cultural relics in twelve categories, namely bronze, ceramics, calligraphy, paintings, jades, numismatics, furniture, seals, coins, sculptures, minority art and foreign art, Shanghai Museum is especially famous for its treasures of bronzes, ceramics and paintings and calligraphy. Its original address was 325 West Nanjing Road in what was once the club of the Shanghai horse race course; in 1959, it moved to 16 Henan South Road; in 1996, it moved to the current building. The main 11 galleries in this museum include: Gallery of Ancient Chinese Bronze, Galley of Ancient Chinese Sculpture, Gallery of Ancient Chinese Ceramics, Galley of Ancient Chinese Jades, Gallery of Ancient Chinese Paintings, Gallery of Ancient Chinese Calligraphy, Gallery of Ancient Chinese Seals, Gallery of Ancient Chinese Numismatics, Gallery of Chinese Furniture in Ming and Qing Dynasty and Gallery of Arts and Crafts by Chinese Minority. There is equipped with electronic tour guide and a recorded explanation marked with a three-digit number, which can introduce the culture relics by English, Japanese, French and Chinese, etc. There is a high clarity wide screen video center.
